If you've never been to Playa del Carmen before, then one thing is almost certain - you will want to see the Yucatan's Wonder of the World - the lost Mayan city of Chichen Itza.  There are many choices as to how you want to see this world-famous ruins site, but this tour offers a unique perspective. Start off with a guided tour by day, exploring the full glory of the ruins.  Then by night, you can delve into the Mayan past with the Light and Sound show.  A real Mayan experience, split between night and day.

Journey with us on in air-conditioned style to the lost Mayan empire of Chichen Itza, enjoying a light breakfast on the way. As we arrive, we'll skip the lines with our own private entrance and embark on our quest for history, as our expert archaeological guide takes us back into the past of the Mayan Empire, visiting all the major temples and pyramids, giving us insight into the amazing advanced nature of their civilization, the legends behind their disappearance, and the meanings behind each of the temples and carvings within.  We'll also visit at a cenote, once a historic Mayan human sacrifice site.  

After the guided portion of the tour, we will walk back through our private entrance to the famous Mayaland hotel, where we'll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch.  You have the rest of the afternoon to explore the ruins site on your own, take photos, or cool off with a swim at the Mayaland swimming pool.  You have full use of the facilities for the rest of the day, including lounge chairs, showers, gardens, restaurant and bar.  You can also walk or take a taxi to one of the nearby villages to have dinner, or you can enjoy it at one of the gourmet restaurants at the hotel.

The final stage of the tour is the Light & Sound Show, where the pyramid of El Castillo is illuminated, as narration and lighting effects tell the tale of the Mayan empire.  Also enjoy a Mayan ball game as the show progresses.  After the show is over, we'll head back to Playa del Carmen and to your hotel.

Cruise Passengers:  This tour is not compatible with cruise schedules.  We suggest visiting Tulum or Coba instead.

Duration: Approximately 13 Hours.

Departs:  Pick-up from all major hotels north of downtown.  Meeting location for downtown and Playacar hotels is at Senor Frogs, Gran Porto Real and Plaza Playacar.  Exact meeting location will be assigned with your confirmation.

We Recommend You Bring:

• Camera - This goes without saying.

• Swimsuit - If you want to swim at the hotel pool.

• Hat - You'll want some type of hat to protect you from the sun.

• Pocket money - There are a variety of shops in the Mayan Village and in Chichen Itza - you may wish to buy something.

• Suncreen - A must.  Temperatures at Chichen Itza top 90°F most days, and there is little shade.

• Guidebook - Your guide is very good, but when you have time on your own, you may wish to refresh your memory about the temples. You may also wish to read about the Mayan Ruins on the bus trip.

Kids:  All ages welcome.  Kids prices apply to ages 5-12.  Kids 0-4 are free.
