Part of our sustainable tourism effort in the Riviera Maya, this adventure takes you to the far reaches of the Yucatan, where you'll experience one of the natural wonders of Mexico - the Rio Lagartos Flamingo Preserve - where flamingos outnumber people. Home to over 375 different species of birds, Rio Lagartos is a birding paradise like few others in the world. This true eco tour will embrace the natural environment of the Yucatan, and introduce you to the indigenous people who inhabit the area. Truly off the beaten track! |

Approximate Itinerary:
7:45 AM - After hotel pickup, we depart for Rio Lagartos
9:00 AM - We'll make a pit stop for restrooms, coffee, and snacks.
11:00 AM - Arrive at the colonial Mayan Village of Tizimin, where we'll tour the town square, market and it's fine cathedral. You'll have a chance to see how the local Mayans live today, and experience their history and culture.
12:30 PM - Delicious Mayan lunch in the small pueblo of Rio Lagartos.
1:30 PM - Take a boat trip through the mangrove-lined waterways of Rio Lagartos, spotting exotic species of birds and other wildlife. Pelicans, flamingos, crocodiles, ibis, cranes, and many other species may be seen.
4:00 PM - Take a bano Maya, a traditional Mayan bath in the natural salt springs, followed by a therapeutic mud bath that will leave your body cleansed and pure. Local Mayans have been performing this cleansing ritual for centuries.
4:30 PM - Depart for Playa del Carmen
7:30 PM - Drop-off at your hotel.
